Another pandemic

In addition to the COVID-19 pandemic, a widespread imbalance of the gut microbiota known as Intestinal Dysbiosis has recently been observed in the population, opening the door to countless disorders and diseases that are affecting all of humanity.

A large metagenomic study conducted in several US states detected dysbiosis in 90% of infants between 0 and 6 months old. Furthermore, gut dysbiosis has been found in several studies of patients with various diseases, including diabetes, cancer, obesity, allergies, cardiovascular disease, arthritis, autism spectrum disorders, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and inflammatory bowel disease.

The main causes of this increase in the imbalance of the intestinal microbiota are the current lifestyle, inadequate diet, stress, excessive use of antibiotics and other medications that alter the intestinal flora.

The undeniable solution to halt this silent threat affecting us globally lies in regenerating our unbalanced gut microbiota, recognizing its significant role in the development of chronic diseases that lead to disability and mortality. This can be achieved through a more varied diet rich in fruits and vegetables, which provide ample fiber; eliminating or reducing processed, canned, and sugary foods, as well as saturated fats; and modifying our lifestyle through exercise and adequate rest to reduce stress.

According to the findings, scientists are recommending, to help achieve and maintain the essential balance for good physical and mental health, the consumption of probiotics (beneficial bacteria) in the daily diet through fermented foods or supplements specially formulated for that purpose.
