Back to school: Is COVID-19 an obstacle?

The return to in-person classes during the pandemic

Never before has the return to school after the holidays been so worrying for parents. Schools have implemented the measures instructed by the relevant authorities. But what can we adults do on our own to further protect our children and grandchildren?

The complete list of measures issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) can be found at the following link: https://espanol.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/parent-checklist.html . This is the official source for finding the information needed to act responsibly during this pandemic. First and foremost, it recommends talking to children about the measures they can take to protect themselves and others, emphasizing handwashing as the primary way to slow the spread of the virus.

The CDC emphasizes proper handwashing techniques before and after eating, sneezing, coughing, blowing your nose, using the toilet, playing with pets, and adjusting your mask. It also suggests making handwashing a fun activity where parents participate, making children feel confident and supported.

Instructions for effective handwashing begin by teaching the child to wet their hands, lather them, rub them together for at least 20 seconds, rinse thoroughly, and dry them with a clean towel or let them air dry. Another important aspect is to frequently remind them of hygiene practices. However, no matter how many instructions are given to the child, the parents' example is the most effective teaching.
