Preventing infections is essential

Scientists around the world, as well as public health agencies and authorities, are warning about the major health crisis that is coming: Antimicrobial resistance.

Antimicrobials (antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and antiprotozoals), essential in the fight against human, animal, and plant diseases, are becoming ineffective. This is causing alarm in all countries, at all levels, as common diseases become untreatable, thus increasing the number of deaths.

The inappropriate and excessive use of these medications in humans, animals, and plants is increasing the emergence and spread of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens. Furthermore, the production of new antibiotics has been declining due to their high costs, which make them unprofitable for pharmaceutical companies.

Given this entire scenario, antimicrobial resistance is becoming a greater threat to human life than the coronavirus pandemic. This is why strengthening preventive measures is becoming essential, as one of the many tools needed to confront this threat.

It is our personal responsibility to implement the recommended preventative measures to avoid coronavirus, especially frequent handwashing, continuous cleaning of surfaces, and appropriate precautions in our interpersonal relationships. In addition to all this, it is advisable to strengthen our immune system to increase our resistance to infections. This can be achieved through a proper diet, further enhanced by supplementation with products designed to provide a strong and resilient immune system, among which probiotics and prebiotics are currently highly recommended.
