Hygiene as the main weapon against COVID-19

How to inactivate COVID-19 on surfaces?

There are several products on the market that can significantly reduce the infectivity of the coronavirus on surfaces within a one-minute exposure time. These products go by various names, and it's important to be familiar with them to help us choose the most effective and best-priced options. It's also crucial to get into the habit of always reading the label before buying any product, whether it's a cleaning product, a disinfectant, or food.

Hydrogen peroxide, ethyl alcohol, 70% isopropyl alcohol, or a 0.1% sodium hypochlorite solution are effective substances for disinfecting surfaces and inactivating COVID-19. However, solutions of various disinfectants, such as benzalkonium chloride and chlorhexidine digluconate, commonly used by people as topical antiseptics, have not been shown to be effective.

What is known to be effective in inactivating the virus is careful hand washing with plenty of soap and water, and when it is not possible to wash your hands, then use the well-known disinfectant gels called "hand sanitizer" that contain ethyl alcohol or 70% isopropyl alcohol.

For disinfecting surfaces, including shoe soles, a 0.1% sodium hypochlorite solution is recommended. Always use this product with caution and read the manufacturer's instructions for use.
